Recognizing Problem Gambling

Signs that gambling may have become problematic:

  • Spending more time or money than you intended
  • Chasing losses - placing bigger bets to recover what you've lost
  • Feeling restless or irritable when trying to stop betting
  • Lying about how much you bet or how often you bet
  • Borrowing money to fund betting
  • Neglecting responsibilities because of sports betting
  • Using betting to escape problems or emotions

If you recognize three or more of these patterns, speak with a counselor. Call 1-800-GAMBLER for confidential support.

Tools for Managing Your Betting

  • Deposit limits: Set daily, weekly, or monthly deposit caps in your sportsbook account settings before you bet.
  • Session timers: Set alerts that notify you after a specific period of active betting.
  • Self-exclusion: Most offshore sportsbooks offer account-level self-exclusion for 24 hours to permanent. This only applies to that specific sportsbook.
  • Blocking software: Gamban and BetBlocker block gambling sites across all your devices.
